SEJURAI - Cultural Centre

The Sejurai Cultural Hub is envisioned as a dynamic space where heritage and innovation intertwine, drawing inspiration from the intricate “Day and Night” Songket Weaving Technique, or Menyolek, practiced by the Melanau community. The name Sejurai combines seimbang (balance) and jura (flow), symbolizing the seamless. integration of cultural continuity and evolution.

The architectural form is inspired by the local textile-weaving loom, incorporating repetitive and overlapping timber structures that echo the Menyolek technique, creating an immersive spatial experience. Emphasizing duality, the design dissolves boundaries between opposing elements, allowing them to complement one another—just as day and night exist in harmony.
